HR Solutions in Conflict to Cooperation

Jannatul Ferdous | MBA 1st Semester, Department of Human Resource Management

Mr. Kibria was the CEO of Dream Tech Solutions Company where people made computer programs. It was not a big company but not small either. It had many employees who worked in different teams. For a few weeks, things were not going well at Dream Tech Solutions. The Product Development (PD) and Quality Assurance (QA) teams were not getting along. They were arguing and blaming each other. The QA team said, “The developers give us inappropriate code full of mistakes” and the developers said, “The QA team always finds silly problems and slows us down.” They started to fight in meetings, send rude messages and stop helping each other. People didn’t feel happy coming to work anymore. Some workers even said things like: “They don’t respect our hard work. It feels like a war between us.” Because of the fighting, the teams missed essential deadlines, the projects were not finished on time. The customers started complaining.

Mr. Kibria saw that the company was losing money and time and the work wasn’t getting done the way it should. Then he discussed with Mr. Hasan, Corporate HR of Dream tech about the team conflict. As a Corporate HR, Mr. Hasan cared about people and he wanted everyone to work together happily. He believed that every problem could be solved if people talk calmly and listen to each other. So, Mr. Hasan knew about this kind of conflict is common at work but it must be handled carefully. He held private meetings both teams to hear their sides calmly. He listened carefully and found that both teams were under pressure and misunderstood each other. To help them, he arranged a Conflict Resolutions Workshop with role-plays and open talks. Team members began to understand each other’s challenges and felt more connected. Mr. Hasan then helped them create a new work plan with better communication and clear rules. QA team joined meetings earlier and both teams agreed to talk regularly and respectfully. They called their teamwork plan “Team Code Care” and everyone agreed to follow it. After three months, big changes were seen: fewer bugs in software, projects finished on time, Developers and QA saying things like – “We make a great team.” At the company’s monthly town hall, both teams stood together and gave a presentation about their successful teamwork. Mr. Kibria was proud and gave thanks to Mr. Hasan for the teams went from Conflict to Cooperation.

Here, the Corporate HR Mr. Hasan didn’t right any code or didn’t test any software. But he played the most important HR role that was help people work together better to solve the problem peacefully and reminded everyone that: “We are not enemies and we are one team with the same goal.” This kind of story not only just happens in offices but also in educational institutes, sports teams, families. The way to fix these problems is not to fight back but to talk calmly, understand each other and find a solution together.

Conflict Resolution is like being peacemaker. You bring people together, you help them talk, you help them trust each other again. That’s what Mr. Hasan did. That’s what HR Professionals do every day in workplace. From this story we have learned that - When we listen, respect and work as a team, anything is possible.
